Get “Actively” Involved for National Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Walking for the CureOctober is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and while we talk a lot about getting the right nutrients for your health, being active is also a critical part of getting healthy and reducing the risk of certain types of cancers.  If you’re already active, consider challenging yourself — a marathon, perhaps?  If you have let the exercise  routine slide and aren’t in great shape, start out slow but doing something that will get you moving.  A 20 minute walk each day is 20 minutes of exercise you weren’t getting before — that’s 2 hrs and 20 minutes a week (see, a little here and there can really add up).   Grab an exercise buddy since studies show you’re more likely to stick with a routine if you’re accountable to someone else and not trying to go it alone.  Grab your neighbor and get caught up on each other’s lives while taking a brisk walk.

And October not only gives you plenty of opportunities to get active, but also to get involved with activities that help raise awareness and funds for breast cancer prevention.  So get active for your health and get moving with an organized event to help others with theirs.  For your convenience, we’ve listed several happening in our local area below.  Have fun!
